Kapa Haka is a strong feature of Huia Range School. Our kapa haka groups support school waiata at assemblies and perform at different events and venues in Dannevirke.
Our first kapa haka group formed in 2007, when about 25 interested students met once a week to learn and practice new waiata. In 2012 the school entered a team in the Tamaki Nui Ā Rua Kapa Haka festival at the Dannevirke Town Hall.
We have entered a team into the local competition every year since then and every year have won trophies. The number of students wanting to be part of kapa haka has increased steadily over the years. Last year we entered a junior team and a senior team into the competition and this year we again entered two teams. Our senior team also competed successfully in the regional competition at Palmerston North, from there they qualified for the 2019 national competition, Te Mana Kuratahi 2019.
